Settings to Consider - #4

   When creating a film, it is always important to identify the setting, or multiple settings. This is because it will help to match the event to when and where it is taking place. Since my film will be about a teenager who learns how to box, there should definitely be a boxing gym used at some point in the film. The location should also be clean and organized as well.     It should also include an exterior setting, which may showcase how the characters interact with each other more openly, and at certain times of the day. A great exterior setting to use would be around the neighborhood, because it is an easy place to go out and film at and there is a lot of space for different types of camera shots. There may be some parts of the film that need to be filmed at night, or during the day, and this can be greatly demonstrated using the natural lighting of the sun.   The location of the final battle should be noted as it may be included in the opening. Genre History - #2

 Since my project will be a sports drama, I needed to do some research on the genre's history to gain more info. To start off, the Sports genre began with Charlie Chaplin's 'The Champion' (1915), which is a boxing silent film. The drama genre has more confusing beginnings however, since it was said to have originated in Greece as an evolution of religious ritual. Around the same time however, the Sanskrit Indian Prakarana arose, which is a play that consisted of five acts. This may have been regarded to spreading the genre of drama in the east, the same way Greece did in the west.  As I've said before, 'The Champion' was the very first sports film. However, this was only a silent film which came around during the silent film era. Meaning that there was no real dialogue or important sounds which could influence the meaning of the film.
