Foley sounds example - #17

Foley sounds are used in a lot of films. Some can be very creative, or maybe not at all what you think is making the sound. My film will need to include this for the creative aspect. The sounds that I will recreate are a car starting, the sound of velcro on boxing gloves, and hitting the heavy bag.

For the sound of the car starting, my mom recorded me starting up the engine. I also included the sound of it revving up, as it will show that the car is getting ready to speed off. I decided to recreate this as a foley sound, as I thought it would make the tone of the car engine sound more deep.

The sound of the Velcro on the boxing gloves was very simple and straightforward to recreate. I decided to add this sound as I believed it would be a unique sound element to add in the background. By doing it this way, I would be able to focus more on the dialogue during actual film time and add this additional sound to the background

Hitting the heavy bag is a very important part of the film, as it shows where the protagonist begins, to where he will get to. Creating this sound was easy to make, as all I had to do was punch the bag, as the character would, and in many variations. Overall, creating all of these sounds was fun to do, but the hard part will be to mix it well in the editing process.

Settings to Consider - #4

When creating a film, it is always important to identify the setting, or multiple settings. This is because it will help to match the event to when and where it is taking place. Since my film will be about a teenager who learns how to box, there should definitely be a boxing gym used at some point in the film. The location should also be clean and organized as well.     It should also include an exterior setting, which may showcase how the characters interact with each other more openly, and at certain times of the day. A great exterior setting to use would be around the neighborhood, because it is an easy place to go out and film at and there is a lot of space for different types of camera shots. There may be some parts of the film that need to be filmed at night, or during the day, and this can be greatly demonstrated using the natural lighting of the sun.   The location of the final battle should be noted as it may be included in the opening. This is because I believe that tying

Genre History - #2

Since my project will be a sports drama, I needed to do some research on the genre's history to gain more info. To start off, the Sports genre began with Charlie Chaplin's 'The Champion' (1915), which is a boxing silent film. The drama genre has more confusing beginnings however, since it was said to have originated in Greece as an evolution of religious ritual. Around the same time however, the Sanskrit Indian Prakarana arose, which is a play that consisted of five acts. This may have been regarded to spreading the genre of drama in the east, the same way Greece did in the west.  As I've said before, 'The Champion' was the very first sports film. However, this was only a silent film which came around during the silent film era. Meaning that there was no real dialogue or important sounds which could influence the meaning of the film. A much more popular sports film that came later was Rocky (1976) starring Sylvester Stallone. Rocky has also remained a cultu
