TV show episode analysis - #6

Some creations may be considered original, however, they may have built it off of an idea that inspired them. For some inspiration, I decided to look at sports films. Particularly, boxing-specific ones as it can help me create a more accurate representation of the lifestyle that boxers live. One show that I decided to research and have actually watched entirely, is 'Mike' 2022. This show displays the upbringing and lifestyle of professional boxer Mike Tyson.

The episode that most interested me was episode 2 'Monster'. This episode focused on Mike's teenage years before he became successful. The episode used many flashback sequences to showcase certain moments in his life where he had to deal with struggles. This was important to study, as I will try to model my project to something very similar.

Many camera shots in this episode were used, such as long shots to show off the props and mice-en-scene, close-ups to enhance the emotions of the characters, and over-the-shoulder during times of longer dialogue. The most unique element of editing that was used in this episode was the action match cuts, which helped make seamless transitions.

The main use of sound in this episode was the dialogue between characters, some were non-diegetic narrations and others were diegetic dialogue. Background music was also placed at certain times to help the audience learn the emotions of each particular scene. The overall use of sound in this episode allowed for a more meaningful exhibit of the show, which I will definitely try to use in my final project.

Final Cut - #42

Final Script - #35

For my finalized script, I completed much more of what was left of the first draft. This included things such as camera shots, music chimes, and sections for each part. With this complete, I can now finish filming and have everything organized.         Scripting was the most intricate, but necessary part. This is because it took a lot of time to put together and actually create from scratch. Not only did I have to write the lines for all of my characters, but also the way it would be shown through the camera shots. In my opinion, this is the hardest part of preparation.

Setting and location - #27

For this opening scene, I only wanted to make two areas the focus. One was the sidewalk, and the other was Miguel's house. Both of which can be found in a neighborhood. I found it ideal, as it was close to where I live and we wouldn't have to go anywhere far to film it.   The sidewalk would be used for the chase section, where Sammy would hunt down Tim. This setting will be the least significant, and shortest but it will be included in the very beginning. Miguel's house is the most important setting as it is where he and Tim will develop their friendship. This in turn will set up the story for the entire film.   What was most interesting about filming at these places was the lighting. The sun gave really good natural lighting, which was important to these scenes. I was able to film what I wanted to since it was pretty much clear on both filming days. I also liked how the sunset looked at the end where Tim was about to walk out.
